Thinking about the trip
I found myself in a pretty contemplative mood all day today. Alot has happened in the last 5 weeks in Brasil.
Front of Cemetary
These are family owned graves.
A poor man's grave, but a rich man in Christ.
Wellington's Funeral and Burial
I had thought that I was going to a meeting to help Celso plan a funeral for our brother Wellington but showed up to a room full of family members, and church family members, and the battered body of our brother in a simple box in the middle of the room. It was the most simple funeral I have ever seen, and maybe the most beautiful. After some worship, a few simple comments from Celso and myself, and some prayer, a lot of time was given for people simply standing around the casket, comforting Wellington's family as best they could. After about 2 hours, the top was put on the simple casket, and the emotions peeked as it was the final time they would see their son, brother, friend. A pick-up truck backed up to the door and his casket was loaded in the back, and a couple hundred people walked behind in the pouring rain to a cemetary where Wellington was to be entombed in a cement mausoleum. The rain began to fall even harder and a young man from the church handed Karen and I his umbrella. Many people got soaked by the rain. For some reason I kept thinking about Jesus weeping as he witnessed the sorrow of so many of his friends.
Pastor Celso paid with a credit card for Wellington's body to be prepared and for the cost's of the funeral including his simple tomb in the back corner of the graveyard. I was touched by the Lord when I heard that the total cost for everything was $R2,000. It was the exact amount I had talked with Gene Stokes about on Sunday morning to see if we could add it to our normal deposit for Celso and the Sao Vicente church. My thought was to help the church finish some expenses associated with their building. That happened about 12 hours before Wellington died. Now I realize that God in his sovereignty was providing for his beloved disciple even before the tragedy happened.
Celso, Tati and Larry
We had planned to fellowship and play some games but somehow we just didn't feel like it today. I think we were all still feeling a little melancholy and somber, We ended up having an interesting discussion about death, customs and cultural differences. I think some of the shock is still hanging around....and I know that everyone is pretty exhausted. I will always be thankful that we have those last pictures of Wellington in our minds; laughing over the play at the Anniversary celebration, and a special memory for Kelly; Wellington laughing with her at Larry's jokes and antics just before the last pictures were taken and everyone departed, going there seperate ways... When I think of Wellington in heaven I see a different picture than any I have pictured there before him. I see him laughing boisterously, tears streaming down his face with so much joy in the presence of our Almighty God!
Fellowship with good friends.
We met our friends for lunch today during a pretty serious downpour of rain. We shared several laughs and lots of good home-cooking Brasilian style. They told us the recipe's were from the North.
Cooks in the Kitchen
Juliah also thought she should check out the kitchen when she smelled chocolate chip muffins baking. She found mommy helping Kelly whip up a great treat for us.
Thunder and Lightning!
The kids played with lego's during the rumble (more like cannon's going off) of thunder. Juliah gave an occasional look out the window to reassure herself that we were all going to be safe.
New Church Building
2 minutes after taking this picture I was greeted at the door with the smiling face of a brother I had not seen in 3 years. Now it will be eternity until I see him again.
Karen helps pass out bread to the kids of Mexico 70, a favella in Sao Vicente.
Sao Vicente

Looking toward the hills, toward Sao Paulo.
Itaipu Dam
There are a number of world famous things here in Foz do Iquazu. (No I did not take a helicopter ride to get this shot, it is a picture of a picture. But the dam is almost in Tim's back yard.)
It is a little odd to see this sign pointing to the Calvary property in the middle of a huge wheat field. And yes, that is the road to the property in front of the sign.
The road to the Bible College is.... well the picture says it all.
Henrique and Larry
Ten years of traveling to Brasil and this is Larry's first visit with a farmer. Henrique is the neighbor of the Bible College property, a a local Brasilian fazendeiro (farmer).
He finally got out to see some beautiful farmland in Brasil up close and not only from 30,000 feet in the air.
From Curitiba to Campo Mourao
By God's perfect planning we drove from Curitiba to Campo Mourao with Junior and Delinda and their family. What a great day driving through rural Brasil!

It is true...these little precious lambs are a huge joy in my life. I am so grateful that God has allowed me to take part in their first big adventure seeing life in a new culture and a different part of the world. We get so caught up in our own little space we don't always remember that God's view takes it all in; every country, every city, every home, every lifestyle and most important, every human being alive on this planet. And I need to remember, He isn't viewing it from the United States looking out to other places. We aren't the center of it all. He is seeing us all from His throne! KL
Teaching in Curitiba
I used my experience of falling in the pool at Tim and Talisa's house as an illustration for the value of making good observations in the Word. (I knew that experience would be redeemed by the Lord!)
Melissa studying
Melissa volunteered to help with children's ministry Sunday night and used John's awesome office to prepare.
World Famous Falls in Agentina
Friday: A great day with Warren and Sheri.
Cataratas Argentina 1
Garganta del Diablo
No way does the devil get any credit for this most magnificent and powerful of the falls. But rather as Psalm 29:3 says, "The voice of the LORD is over the waters; The God of glory thunders; The LORD is over many waters."
Excited to See the Yoder's
By Wednesday afternoon Karen and I were pretty excited to get in the car and head to the airport to get Warren and Sheri.
Sheri with lot's of luggage and Karen with lot's to download to her just arrived friend.
mmmmmm... wireless internet, a good cup of coffee, and friends to fellowship with (Sheri has her turn to download)
Adventure in Paraquay
I must say right up front I wasn't overly crazy about the idea of going for a visit to Paraquay. Especially since I was just now getting accustomed to driving in relatively safe Brasil. But spending time with our new friends from Germany was a good enough reason.
Chaos in the Streets of Parguay
The good news we got in and out without crashing. The bad news I got worked over in a back room of the Police station until I pulled R$100 out of my pocket to keep from getting Tim and Talisa's car impounded.
Three Countries in a Day
It was a long and adventurous day to say the least. North American couple and a German couple visit Brasil, Paraguay and Argentina in one day!!
"Like a Walmart" :)
Karen and I thought we had scored when we found a store nearby that is "just about like a Walmart back home". We bought the handy be green tote bag and didn't even realise until this morning when we were shooting this pic, that it IS A WALMART!!!
Coldest morning so far...
Peanut is a very smart dog. When we saw her thawing out in a sunny spot this morning it gave us the idea to go eat our cornflakes out back, in the sun, against a wall, out of the wind.
This is for you Ian and Lee...you will be missed here in Brasil!
Rainy Lazy Friday
Today has been a very rainy day. And that forced both Karen and I to stay inside and take it easy.
Karen enjoying a book with Peanuts as a foot warmer.
Larry and Rafa
Teaching last night went well. Thanks for praying.
Myth Buster in Brasil
Actually the myth is proven not busted. Water swirls counterclockwise in the southern hemisphere!! And if Tim and Talisa read this, yes I did waste some water with several tries. But since we are paying the bills now I quess that was OK. I also wasted the remainder of a liter of Pepsi Light so that I could actually see the swirly. And Curt if you are reading this, no I don't have too much free time on my hands here in Brasil. This was important science. LL
Nothern Hemisphere flush
We received this confirmation from Karen's friend (Bonnie) in the states, that water does indeed swirl clockwise in the north... so there you have it. Wonder no more!
Toast and eggs anyone?
I continue to be amazed at how resourceful Karen is and am so proud of her on this trip. OK, this is not toast the way we enjoy it at home, but it is toast and we enjoyed it...
Ordinary Life in Iqassu
Larry heads to town on errands.
Karen works at home...

Home away from home...
Moving day came and went (again!) as we have settled into Tim and Talisa's home for the next 12 or so days. Our first night here has been another adventure. Larry was extremely sick when we arrived. I found some sheets, made the bed for him and walked up to the store to find something to eat. I came home with some banana's, bread and for Larry, the closest thing to 7up that I could find. After eating half a banana and some dry cheerios I did a little work on the blog and settled in for the night. KL
A prayerful goodbye...
until we meet again in Oregon!!
Tim is excited and ready to go!
Talisa excited and ready to go....
Talisa needs a vacation!
She is such a servant, always making sure everyone around her is taken care of. She is like the energizer bunny. Well, it's about time Talisa takes a break and gets some well deserved rest and relaxation. Rogers family: have a great time with Phil and Joy and the kids. We love you and will see you in Oregon in August.

Steak anyone??
This was just the beginning...and it was the best tasting steak I've ever had...except when Ben cooks steak of course!!
This is what I call having a BBQ!!
Ramses hosted the church body at his home with a going away churrasca for Tim and TaLisa. There were lots of meats, salads, side dishes and desserts. We had tons of fun too, including a dancing contest by the guys. You should see Tim when the music plays.... It was a night of good laughs with good friends.
Orchid Exhibit in Iquassu
Karen enjoyed an Orchid exhibit Sunday Morning

Zeph Ami Caze
This is the way to take a bath...throw a swimming pool down in the shower and you have an instant bathtub for a baby!!
Winter in Southern Hemisphere
Never thought I'd be building a fire in a woodstove to stay warm in Brasil...
Up The Hill...
The Caze's live at the top of a very steep hill. Good thing they have a car with a strong motor!
Breakfast
10 years of traveling to Brasil, Larry is getting to where he likes to eat hotdogs with his eggs for breakfast.
Puxe means Pull....
Puxe, pronounced "pushee" in Portuguese means "pull". Poor Larry, he still "pushee's when he sees "puxe"!
Guys Relaxing
Alexandre, Dave and Larry enjoy a rare moment of talking and relaxing.
Karen and Lillian
Lillian worked on making candy and party favors for a month. The party was a huge celebration of Lidia's first year!
